Love, Devo 2.1.16

“I’m going to make you secure in My love for you.”

This is the word the Lord spoke over our new RECESS group this morning. Isn’t it beautiful? I love this statement because it resonates with the season I’ve recently found myself in. Lately, I’ve been struggling to trust and believe God’s love for me. I’ve been viewing His love as something it’s not – conditional, moody, wavering and shy – and the outcome has been insecurity, fear, worry, shame and doubt. But God is good, and He’s used this struggle for my glory in that it’s driven me to spend time at His feet, in His word and in His presence. And as I’ve been with Him there, He’s taken me into a new and greater revelation of His passion and love. Just take a look at what He says to us, His beloved, in the Word of God:

“Arise, my darling; My beautiful one, come away with me! … Oh, you are beautiful, my darling! Oh, you are beautiful! … You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride! You have stolen my heart with once glance of your eyes … How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine.” (SOS 2:10-13, 4:1, 9-10)

Doesn’t that just make your heart melt? This is the passion of Christ for us. This is the true love of God. So often we don’t think of His love in this way. So often we water down His affection because we don’t believe He could possibly love us like this. But now I’m seeing that He does! Now I’m finding that His eyes really do burn with flames of love for us, and those flames never die, and He never looks away! I’d caught glimpses of it in the past, but nothing compares to the love I’ve encountered in Him as I’ve laid broken as His feet these past couple of weeks. And what’s neat, apart from the actual love encounters themselves, is the fruit of them. Knowing His love has made me secure in His love. And it’s security in His love for me that compels me to love, follow and trust Him more.

Do you see what I’m saying? Do you see the power of that? This ought to be one of the most freeing statements out there: God’s love for us compels us to love Him, not the other way around. So often we strive to love God by serving Him. So often we try to convince and compel ourselves that loving God is worth it, but the truth is this: you’re not nearly as convincing as Jesus. All it takes is one look into His eyes, the eyes that burn with flames of love for you, and it’ll be done. You will be His. No one will need to convince you to follow Him, and there won’t be any hesitation with what you’re leaving behind. One encounter with the love of God, and you will be His for a lifetime. That’s the power of the love of God. It’s a love unlike any other. It’s the love our souls long for. It’s a love that compels life change in just a moment. And it’s a love that He longs for us to know.

“I’m going to make you secure in My love for you.”

May we sit as His feet this week and let Him show us His love. I promise that as you do, He will show you Himself, and you will be forever changed.

Be blessed.
